At Literacy Steps, we offer evidence-based learning support from a highly qualified registered teacher specialising in Literacy. Like all trained specialists, we take pride in staying up-to-date with the latest scientific research in reading, applying this knowledge in our educational practice. We're passionate advocates for structured literacy, employing a multimodal approach grounded in the science of reading. Our instruction is direct, explicit, structured, systematic, cumulative, cognitive, intensive, emotionally supportive, and focused on connecting spoken language to written text. By engaging multiple senses simultaneously - visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile - we enhance memory retention and accelerate reading progress.

Structured Literacy benefits all students, not just those with literacy learning difficulties. Our explicit and systematic approach, covering phonemes, letter-sound relationships, syllables, morphemes, vocabulary, sentence structure, text organization, and paragraph structure, is highly beneficial for our ESOL students. Additionally, Literacy Steps offers acceleration programs designed to boost students' writing abilities.
Nestled in a relaxed home setting, Literacy Steps provides 1:1 and small group Structured Language lessons tailored for both primary and high school students. Our program offers systematic instruction, focusing on enhancing phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. With each session, students experience success, boosting their confidence and skill development. This transforms the learning journey into an enjoyable experience, leading to a sense of happiness and fulfilment.
